Kendra Joy Gillis and Joe C. Colvin III were united in marriage on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 4:00 pm at St. John’s African Methodist Episcopal Church in Montgomery. The Reverend James Arnell and Reverend Doctor Anderson Todd, Jr. officiated over the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Attorney and Mrs. H. Lewis Gillis of Montgomery. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rozell Daniels, Sr. of Troy, Alabama and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Grant Gillis of Troy, AL.

The groom is the son of Ms. Judy Colvin and Mr. Joe C. Colvin, Jr. of Montgomery. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Othar Lee Wood of Luverne, Alabama and the late Joe C. Colvin, Sr.and the late Mary Grace Colvin of Brantley, Alabama.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a couture gown designed by Priscilla of Boston. The strapless ivory gown has intricate floral embroidery with a variety of crystals, pearls, and beads. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and white orchids designed by Jill Sampson.

Kristen Gillis of Montgomery, sister of the bride, and Natalie Smith of Atlanta, Georgia served as Maids of Honor. Dr. TaShawna Thomas Stokes of Huntsville served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Kemika Alloway, Dr. Porcia Bradford, Jessica Colvin, sister of the groom, Catherine McGlown, Dr. Shaundre Terrell, and Kristin Wyckoff. Arin Stowman served as Junior Bridesmaid. The flower girls were Michala and Maya Daniels.

Rudolph Anderson, Jr. of Huntsville, Tyrome Davis of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Staff Sergeant Darius Woodall of Augusta, Georgia, cousin of the groom, served as best men. Groomsmen were Kevin Gillis, brother of the bride, Tarah Graham, Ian Halseio, Lester Holston III, Dr. Theodore Morgan, Reginald Jones, and David Thomas. The ring bearer was Jordan Woodall.

The wedding was directed by Mrs. Amber Buchanan. Dr. Joel Jones was the director of music. The soloists were Courtney Moore, Bonita Conley, and Dorothy Riggins-Allen.

The reception followed the ceremony at the Renaissance Hotel. Attorney Milton Davis was the master of ceremony. Souled Out provided dinner dance music and later in the evening, Howard Miller served as the DJ. Jill Sampson was the reception and floral designer.

After a honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, the happy couple will reside in the Montgomery area. The couple is extremely excited about their new journey together!
